New Delhi|Nov, 18: Giving a clarion call for uprooting militancy by chocking all forms of support system, including financing and radicalisation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday lamented that certain countries supported the menace as part of their foreign policy.
In his inaugural address to the third edition of ‘No Money for Terror’ (NMFT) international ministerial conference, Modi asserted that there “must be a cost imposed on countries that support militancy”.
“The world needs to unite against all kinds of covert and overt backing of militancy by individuals, organisations or any of the states,” he said. Modi insisted that there should be no need for anyone to remind the world of the dangers of militancy. “The long-term impact of terror is particularly hard on the poor and on the local economy,” he said, adding that all forms of militant attacks “deserve equal outrage and action, as uniform, unified and zero-tolerance approach only can defeat terror”.
Reminding the world community of the dangers and threats posed by militancy, Modi said, “We cannot wait till terror comes to our homes, if we want our citizens to be safe. We must chase militants, break their support network, and hit their finances. Uprooting militancy needs a larger, proactive, systemic response.”
Highlighting that terror organisations get money through various channels, including state support, the PM said, “The intensity of the reaction to different attacks cannot vary based on where they happen. All attacks deserve equal outrage and action.”
“In today’s world, ideally, there should be no need for anyone to remind the world of the dangers of terror. However, there are still certain mistaken notions about terror in some circles. We consider that even a single attack is one too many. Even a single life lost is one too many. So we will not rest till terror is uprooted,” Modi asserted.
Noting the significance of the event being organised in India, Modi said, “Our country faced horrors of terror long before the world took serious note of it. Over the decades, terror in different forms tried to hurt India but we have fought the menace bravely.” “Certain countries support terror as part of their foreign policy. Proxy war is also dangerous and the world needs to unite against it,” he added.
