Awantipora : Commemorating the birth anniversary of the Tribal warrior BirsaMunda, Dean of Students, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora celebrated JanjatiyaGaurav Divas by organising a documentary screening on the life and struggles of BirsaMunda here on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office IUST Awantipora, the documentary threw light upon the struggles and determination of Birsa Munda, who was a young tribal freedom fighter, remembered for his activism against British India in the late 19th century. Birsa Munda, also played a very important role in the fight against the British Raj, especially in the case of Munda Revolt by mobilising people to fight against the unfair land-grabbing practices of colonial authorities. It is pertinent to mention that the Union Government of India last year announced the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, that is 15 November as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ to remember and honour the brave tribal freedom fighters.
In a concluding para of the statement, Dr. Anisa Jan, Dean of Students IUST present during the event said, “The life and teaching of Birsa Munda, show us how important it is to stand against injustice and fight with truth and courage.” The event concluded with a discussion on leanings from the life of Birsa Munda and his role in the Indian Independence movement. Faculty members, scholars, and students from various departments of the University participated in the celebrations.
