Srinagar : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested five gamblers and also seized stake money from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that on receiving inputs about gambling activities in Nowgam area of Sumbal a police party of PP Nowgam led by I/C PP Nowgam under the supervision of SDPO Sumbal Surinder Mohan and SHO PS Sumbal raided the specific site and arrested 5 gamblers on the spot who been identified as Shabir Ahmad Zadoo, Mohmad Maqbool Naikoo, Syed Reyaz, Bashir Ahmad Batoo and Kifayat Hussain Batoo all residents of Nowgam Sumbal.
Stating that stake money of 3,420/- and playing cards were recovered from the gamblers, Police in it’s statement further said that the gamblers have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody, Stating therein further that a case vide FIR No. 137/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Sumbal and investigation has been taken up.
In the concluding para of it’s statement, police said that people found indulging in criminal activities shall be dealt as per law and appealed people to share information regarding the crimes in their neighbourhood with the local police units.
