Anantnag : A grand Cultural festival was on Monday organised at Town Hall, here with a huge number of audience witnessing the proceedings amid presence of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr. Basharat Qayoom as chief guest.

A grand show of Folk Theatre (Band e Paether), Roff Dance, Bache Naghma, Kashmiri Chhakri, Nukkad Naatak, Folk Music and Folk Dance was presented during the programme which enthralled the audience including the dignitaries.

Awards were given to 10 Senior Artists and 11talented students of the district besides to participants and media fraternity and felicitations were also given away by the DC.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC reiterated the importance of art and culture of Kashmir. He said this is the best Cultural festival in the district and added that the Government is working for the betterment of all Artists. He assured for continuation of such cultural programs in future, so that all artists renowned and new talent get a chance to perform.

Hilal Shah President Municipal Committee Anantnag, District Information Officer, Chief Agricultural officer, C.M.O., School Teachers and other Local Artists were also present.

Presenting the welcome address, Festival Director, Gulzar Bhat said that he was overwhelmed with the excitement to have the DC Anantnag as the Chief Guest in the show to do the inauguration of this festival. He further said that he is happy that the current government is keen to support the artists of J&K. He also demanded for a cultural policy so that the artists get benefitted.

The Festival is being organized by Shah Qalander Folk Theatre in collaboration with District Administration (Anantnag), North Zone Culture Centre (Patiala), J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, office of the Divisional Commissioner (Kashmir) and All J&K Folk Artists Association.
