Anantnag : Gram Sabhas were on Monday held in all 335 Panchayats of Anantnag.
The Gram Sabhas were held in line with the Government directive that for formulation, implementation and smooth execution of Gram Panchayat Development Plan, Gram Panchayats with participation of all concerned line departments shall be held on the first Monday of each month.
Dr Basharat Qayoom, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag said that the Gram Panchayat Development Plan is a holistic document and involves works pertaining not only to Rural Development but various other departments.
While the functionaries of Rural Development hold bi-monthly Gram Sabhas in each Panchayat, it was important that the field functionaries of other concerned departments are present to share the implementation report pertaining to works of their departments, he added.
He said that it is also prudent that development is multi sectoral and addresses the dynamic demands of the Gram Panchayat.
Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Anantnag, Riyaz Ahmad Shah said that the presence of frontline functionaries achieves a dual purpose – one that it allows regular follow up on works taken up in various sectors, second it inculcates accountability and transparency in the implementation of the plan. He said that strict instructions have been passed to BDOs to ensure attendance of all concerned stakeholders and recommend action against absentees.
In addition to representatives from Rural Development, functionaries from Health, Social Welfare, ICDS, Education, Power Development, Jal Shakti, PW (R&B), Fisheries, FCS & CA, Industries and Commerce among others attended the Gram Sabhas.
