DRSC reviews implementation of Road safety Plan in Doda

Doda : Deputy Commissioner Doda, Vishesh Paul Mahajan chaired the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) and Regional Transport Authority (RTA) meetings to discuss road safety measures and streamlining of Transport in the district and future action plan.

The DC, while reviewing the road safety measures, directed all the members of DRSC to go through the Road Safety Policy, Road Safety Action Plan and Directions issued by the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety and come up with comments/ suggestions within the next seven days.

On the decision of the previous meetings regarding Road Safety Awareness, the Chair appreciated the efforts of the Transport department and Traffic department and urged them to intensify the awareness campaign using all means of communication. He urged them to circulate small videos and animations on road safety measures on social media platforms.

The DC asked to reissue the directions to all the petrol pump owners not to give fuel to the bikers without helmet.

The Committee Chairman directed for conducting an immediate road safety audit, installation of crash barriers on vulnerable road stretches and placing glow signs on all the work sites on the roads.

The meeting was informed that 98 passenger vehicles have been fitted with GPS and 1500 speed governors have been installed in commercial vehicles in the district. The Chair instructed to ensure random checking during peak hours, on a daily basis under the overall supervision of ADM (ADC) Dr Ravi Kumar Bharti.

On the enforcement of Motor Vehicle and traffic rules, it was revealed that the department of MVD has seized 89 vehicles, challaned 1007 vehicles and recovered a fine of Rs 3901300 till October 31,202, while traffic police have also achieved an appreciable breakthrough in the enforcement of traffic rules.

On the establishment of ICC and RDTC in the District, the DC directed the ACR Doda to identify a suitable location for the establishment of the same in consultation with MVD and other stakeholders.

Other important issues discussed in the meeting included, Overloading of passenger vehicles, Change of route of Mini Buses, road safety audit of all existing roads, enforcement of RIBBON Development Act, plying of Eco Van as taxis, Community Sanitary Complexes on important road sides, No stand zones in the towns, Road Accident Victims Fund etc.

Meanwhile, the Regional Transport Authority meeting discussed petitions  seeking  route permission for 28 Minibuses, 15 Tata magic/ M Maximo, 71 Taxis/ Mexicabs, and 21 Three wheelers (passenger).

The Chairman sought some additional information from MVD within one day before issuing permits to the applicants for various routes.

The meeting was attended by SSP, Abdul Qayoom; ADC, Dr R K Bharti; SE PWD, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, ARTO, Executive Engineers of PWD Doda and Bhaderwah, Ex En PMGSY Thathri, Dy SP Traffic, EO MC Doda, EO MC Bhaderwah, AEE PMGSY DivDoda, Inspector MVD, representative of NHIDCL, and representatives of other members of the DRSC and RTA.
