Centre delegates powers to LG Ladakh under 2 more central laws

New Delhi : The President of India has empowered the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh to exercise the powers and functions discharged by the “state government “and the “appropriate government” under two more laws.
The Union Home Ministry has issued two separate notifications to empower LG Ladakh to exercise the powers and functions of “the appropriate government” and “the state government” respectively under “the Minimum Wages Act, 1948” and “the Poisons Act, 1919”.
“In pursuance of clause (1) of article 239 of the Constitution, the President hereby directs that the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh shall, subject to the control of the President and until further orders, exercise the powers and discharge the functions of the appropriate Government under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 (11 of 1948) within the said Union Territory,” reads the notification.
Similarly, the powers vested with the appropriate government under another central law have also been delegated to LG Ladakh.
“In pursuance of the powers conferred under clause (1) of article 239 of the Constitution, the President hereby directs that the powers and functions of the State Government under the Poisons Act, 1919 (12 of 1919) shall, subject to the control of the President and until further orders, be exercised by the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Ladakh within the said Union Territory,” the notification further states.
The Union Territories are administered by the President of India under Article 239 of the Constitution of India.
According to the constitutional provision, every Union Territory shall be administered by the President acting, to such extent as he thinks fit, through an administrator to be appointed by him with such designation as he may specify
