Police organises Cyber Crime awareness Progs in G’bal, B’gam

Srinagar : In view of the surge in cyber-crimes in J&K, the police  on Thursday organised ‘Cyber-crime Awareness’ programmes in Ganderbal and Budgam to create awareness among the general public.

According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that the Ganderbal police organized a cyber crimeprogrammeon the directions of SSP Ganderbal Nikhil Borkar-IPS at Govt. Degree College Kangan. The programme was chaired by SDPO Kangan Syed YasirQadri-JKPS accompanied by SHO PS Kangan  and Incharge IT Section DPO Ganderbal. The programme on this occasion was attended by respectable citizens of concerned areas and students of District Ganderbal.

Police in a statement said that similarly in Budgam, Cybercrime Awareness Programme was also organised at Government Higher Secondary School Khag. SHO Police Station Khag hosted the awareness programme and the event was attended by civil society members of Khag, students & teaching staff of the school.

On this occasion, police said that the main motive behind conducting such programmes is to create awareness about trending Cyber Crimes, threats and fraud prevalent in the Society. During the programmes, speakers briefed about various types of cyber threats/crimes such as identity theft, credit card fraud, data stealing, cyber stalking, Pornography, OTP frauds etc. They advised the students to adopt safe browsing habits, avoid suspicious websites while surfing the Internet. They also appealed the participants to not share OTPs or Bank Account Details and Passwords with anyone. They also explained the ways to adopt precautionary measures while conducting Internet Banking and online transactions. Through the medium of this programme, general public were made aware about Cyber Crimes and frauds related to hacking, spam calls and other fake social media networking sites.

In a concluding para of the statement, police said that participants appreciated the efforts of Police for organising such programmes to spread awareness about various cyber-crimes among the common masses.
