Teacher – a spiritual parent

It is commonly said, “An ordinary teacher tells, a good teacher teaches and an extraordinary teacher inspires.” Before I readdress and put up my view point about a teacher, I would like to quote here the beautiful and famous lines of a renowned poet Allama Iqbal, “A teacher is like a builder whose industry is to build and develop the soul of a human.” Since from my childhood I have heard that, “a teacher is a builder of nations which means it is the teacher who builds the great nations and make it’s pillar high. He is the only person who shapes us, reform our blank minds and writes a beautiful destiny on them and prepares us for the good. Let me explain this with an example, when a child is being admitted in a school for the first time, he feels so lonely, as there is no one around him to whom he is used to. He suddenly starts to think of his loneliness and finds that there is nobody who is going to take care of me. He begins to think to whom he will talk to. Some of the hot flashes turn his soft and innocent brains out of the blue. Then he finds his spiritual maker, a pious mentor and a sacred secret who starts to write his destiny with the golden pen. There is no doubt in the fact that teachers are not our biological parents but are truly our spiritual parents. This can’t be wrong if I say, they are sometimes more precious to us than our biological parents. It would not be wrong if I call them the best creation of Almighty Allah on the planet earth. Teacher is a real life hero, a role model for his students, so I wish that a teacher should always be dynamic, versatile and well-defined. Truly, it is only a Teacher, a gem of a personality on earth who always want bright future of his students. Teaching is pious and sacred profession. It is the profession of Messengers. We should really respect this sacred profession from the core of our hearts. But unfortunately, as a writer, I would like to add here that due to some pessimistic approaches in human behaviours. I have no hesitation to state that now-a-days teachers don’t respect their own profession, then how could we expect it from others. Everyday we came to listen so many undue episodes from teaching faculty which not only shocks us but also pierces our hearts into thousand pieces. Had teachers taken an oath to defame, destruct and devastate this pious profession out of their own hands. Before Almighty Allah this profession is considered to be the best one. This profession was created as the noble work on the earth, then why we have took an oath to defame it by our own. The abhorrent acts not only defame the teacher- student relationship but also humanity. We call ourselves as human beings but far from humanity. The real job of a teacher is meant for shaping, nurturing and moulding the behaviour of future nation. But Alas! He has became a Barbarian, who has no hesitation for his wrong doing.
Let me disclose the another aspect of our society. On the other hand, i want to mention here that our students have also no moral respect for their mentors and teachers. They think that their teachers are just giving them their services for which they are being paid handsomely. Sometimes I just think that loyal students are no longer available in schools now-a-days. Had those students shifted to another planets? The real stories of loyal students, Student-Teacher relationship seems to be now a fairy tale. Where had gone those students who used to be always ready to die for uplifting the teachers morale. Had this type of industry been closed forever, where these loyal students were manufactured. Is not this profession going to be a huge devastation for humanity, if not reformed. We call ourselves humans then why far from humanity? Teaching is not only delivering the lectures or feeding the children with the subject matter. As a writer, I weight teaching a miraculous work. Teaching means the overall development of a child. A teacher should not only prepare a student for the competitive world but should prepare him for serving the humanity. A teacher always wants to see his student above all, whether he is a brilliant student or a dull one. It is only the teacher who always prays for his students goodness. When a student earns a good fame in a society or gets well settled, his teacher feels most happy. He wants to tell everyone that this is his taught. He felt like in the seventh heaven of joy. In the end, I would like to conclude my Article with the verses of Allama Iqbal RA, ”
“Khuda Tujay Kisi Tofaan se Aashna Kar Dy
Ki Tere Bahru Ki Mooju Me Iztirab Nahi
Tujay Kitab Se Mumkin Nahi Feraag
Ki Tou kitabi khaa Hai Par Sahibi Kitaab Nahi”
There was a time in exchange for the teacher’s services, one wanted that the gift of his heart he should present to him. This was the real respect of a student for his teacher. As a writer, I myself think that nowadays a teacher doesn’t receive such kind of respect and appreciation in return for his utmost services. They are being trolled and insulted. They don’t even get handsome salary too. No doubt teachers are not the genetic parents of a student but they have been chosen Almighty Allah for the pious and spiritual development of the students. Teachers are the evergreen persons because of their evergreen thoughts and ideas. I do believe that teaching is not everybody’s cup of tea. It is not an easy job to perform. It requires mental strength, endurance, patience, determination, dedication, honesty and unending knowledge. I personally believe that if a teacher maintains the true spirit of his profession, there will be no chaos and it will pave a smooth way for the upliftment of our society. That day shall not be far away when we witness a huge miracle to occur in our society, if teachers recognize their real importance.
