National Unity Day Celebrations Begins at IUST

Awantipora : Commemorating the 147th birth anniversary of SardarVallabhbhai Patel, Dean of Students along with Public Relations and Media Centre, Islamic University of Science and Technology celebrated the National Unity Day Monday by organising a documentary screening and photo-exhibition on the life and achievements’ of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

According to a statement issued from Public Relations Office, IUST  Awantipora, Dr. Anisa Jan, Dean of Students IUST kick-started the celebration by inaugurating the screening event. Dr. Mujeeb Liyakat, I/C Head of the Department Journalism and Mass Communication and Public Relations and Media Centre Coordinator IUST, presided over the proceedings of documentary screening and photo-exhibition. Speaking at the event, Dr. Liyakat enlightened the students about various achievements of Sardar Patel in unifying the nation. Citing from the personal life experience of Sardar Patel publically dissociating with his son Dahyabhai Patel over landing a job on pedigree and not ability; Dr. Liyakat highlighted the ideals of Iron Man of India-Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and reiterated the need and importance of youth to follow Sardar’s example.

The documentary screening was followed by a photo-exhibition, which displayed various key moments about the life and history of Sardar Patel.

In a concluding para of the statement, on this occasion, large number of scholars, students and faculty members from various departments of IUST participated in the celebrations. Dr. Heeba Din, faculty Department of Journalism and Mass Communications concluded the event by presenting the vote of thanks. Zahoor Ahmad, staff DJMC, facilitated the events and provided the technical support.
