Srinagar :  Terming the decision of the government to provide only 5 kgs of rice per household per month at ration depots as harsh , anti poor and unjustified , Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (JKPDF) has said that the consumers have been forced to purchase food grains from the market on exorbitant rates. He said government has arbitrarily stopped supply of additional quota 15 kg of rice per soul per month from its food stores  without weighing the minimum requirement of a poor consumer. He said food grain supply from ration stores has a direct bearing on the life of common people adding that before making any change in the food policy, government should first fore see the actual requirement of a poor consumer.

In a statement issued on Saturday Hakeem while castigating the government for unilaterally stopping supply of additional quota of 15 kgs of rice per household per month   said that how providing only 5 kgs rice per soul per month could meet the monthly ration requirement of a person. “It has been rightly said that 5kgs of rice was insufficient even to fill stomach of a little sparrow”, Hakeem poohpood while urging the government to roll back the decision to provide only 5ks of food grains per household per month at its ration stores . He has urged the government to reconsider it’s decision to withdraw supply of additional quota of 15 kgs of rice per person per month adding that the decision has broken back bone of the poor consumers of Kashmir.
