Jammu : J&K Sports Council, embarking on a mission to extend the reach of sports activities to far-off areas of J&K , has added a new vertical to the program, tapping the talent in schools.
In one of its first kind, a two-day special talent hunt programme commenced in Government Girls Higher Secondary, Chanapora Srinagar Friday.
On day one, more than five hundred students from different schools under the cluster of GHSS Chanapora along with students from the host school participated in day-long selection trials on the premises.
The selection trials were conducted by the Sports Council coaches Syed ShafqatShafi and Shabir Ahmad in Judo and Yoga respectively.
The students had registered themselves for the selection trials well in advance with the physical education wing of the school.
The selection trails in the disciplines of Judo and Yoga held Friday shall follow with trails in Football, Cricket, and PencakSilat tomorrow
Meanwhile, in the Jammu division, the Sports Council organized activities under Jan Abhiyan and Back to the village (B2V4) in PanchayatBirpur.
Deputy Commissioner, State Taxes, KanchanBala visited Birpur village and presided over the sports carnival organized in collaboration with the Panch and Sarpanch of the village.
The Deputy Commissioner had a series of interactions with players of Kabaddi and Volleyball teams. She highlighted the importance and benefits of sports policy besides applauding other special initiatives and the pivotal role played by the administration to upgrade and build new sports infrastructure at the panchayat level, in addition to conducting coaching classes.
Earlier, Ashok Singh, Divisional Sports Officer, Jammu, in his welcome address, outlined the series of sports activities organized in different districts of Jammu Division.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarpanch, VinaJamwal outlined the performance of Birpur in sports and how the hamlet has always hogged the news for sporting reasons. The village Birpur has produced many sportspersons of National and international standards, she added.
Among others present on the occasion included Sarpanchs, Sher Mohammad and Anil Sharma along with PanchSmriti Devi and Digvijay Singh and Romesh Singh besides players, officials, and coaches of J&K Sports Council.
