Srinagar : Chairman Jammu & Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front ( JKPDF) and former Minister Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen on Thursday expressed serious concern over the viral outbreak of Lumpy Skin Disease ( LSD) among the cattle in various areas of district Budgam and has urged for emergency meaures to curb the disease effectively.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, PDF Chairman Hakeem while expressing concern over the spread of Lumpy Skin disease among the cattlehas urged for 100 per cent vaccination of livestock. He has urged for stocking adequate quantity of Vaccine against Lumpy Skin disease which has recently been developed by the ICAR and National Research Centre on Equines (ICAR-NRCE) in collaboration with Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) . He said the LSD has taken heavy toll on cattle population and badly affected the livelihood of cattle rears. “ Cow rearing for milk yield is the main source of livelihood to a large chunk of farmers and Gujars ,Hakeem Yaseen said while urging administration to come to the rescue of SLD affected families.He said death of cows and buffalos due to Lumpy Skin disease has also reduced the milk production at an alarming level which was a cause of great concern .
Yaseen has also demanded relief and compensation infavour of the farmers whose cattle have been perished due to the Lumpy Skin disease adding that the diseae has inflicted heavy losses to farmers. He has also urged the government to waive off Kissan Credit Card loan of the farmers as they were unable to repay thier bank loans. .
The PDF Chairman has asked the district administration Budgamto send teams of veterinary doctors and para vets in nook and corner of the district to undertake vaccinate and screening of allanimals to curb spreadof the lumpy skin disease effectively.
