Diwali arrangements, winter preparedness discussed at Udhampur

Udhampur :  To discuss the arrangements for the smooth and hassle free celebration of upcoming Diwali, the festival of lights in Udhampur, a meeting was Monday held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, KrittikaJyotsna, in the Conference Hall of DC Office Udhampur.

Threadbare discussions were held on various arrangements viz installation of cracker stalls, security & maintenance of law and order, traffic regulation, drinking water, power supply, sanitation, checking of rates and quality of eatables and deployment of fire tenders.

A joint team of the department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Legal Metrology, Revenue and Municipality was constituted to keep a check on the rates and quality of products especially sweets, eatables and  fruit items during the festive days. Subash Stadium was finalised as the Venue for selling of firecrackers.

The PHE and PDD were directed to ensure adequate drinking water and uninterrupted power supply especially to Subash Stadium, where people in large numbers would visit to purchase firecrackers.

The EO Municipality was asked to conduct a sanitation drive in the town including the venue of crackers stalls and its peripheries.

The CMO was asked to make available medical arrangements at Subash stadium to meet any emergency besides, AD Fire & Emergency Services was directed to deploy fire tenders and prepare and submit a layout plan for installation of crackers stalls  for storage/sale   of crackers at the appropriate  site  as per  the laid down norms.

Further, AD Fire & Emergency was directed to keep standby fire fighting tenders at the venue of sale of crackers to meet any eventuality during the sale days.

The District & Traffic police were asked to ensure proper traffic arrangements during the festive days within the limits of Udhampur town.

The shopkeepers of the town were asked not to sell crackers at their establishments except the prescribed venue.

Later, another meeting was held Monday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, UdhampurKrittikaJyotsna with officers of various departments to discuss the action plan with regard to winter preparedness in the district.

The DC asked the concerned to ensure restoration of road connectivity, stock of ration in vulnerable areas in advance, drinking water and electricity supply.

The DC directed the concerned to activate men and machinery to minimize the chances of disruption of traffic and other essential services. AD FCS&CA was directed  to ensure carry out winter dumping of ration  at all the far flung areas which  become  cut off due to snowfall. Besides, the CMO was asked to ensure supply of medicines for the far-flung areas during the winters.

Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Syed Khan; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Rafiq Ahmed Jaral and other officers of various departments, besides representatives of BeoparMandal  and prominent citizens of the town were also present in the meeting.
