G’bal  : Department of Law, School of Legal Studies (SLS), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Friday organized a one-day programme on “Career Planning in Legal Studies,” at varsity’s Tulmulla campus here.

According to a statement issued from the Public Relations Office of the University the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, Dean SLS and CoE, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, Secretary, DLSA, Ms. Tabassum Wani, Joint Registrar, J&K and Ladakh High Court, Nusrat Hakak, Financial Advisor, Directorate of School Education, Ms. Mubashira Syed, faculty members, university officers and students were present during the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah, said, the career in the field of Law has transcended the boundaries of the Courts. “The law graduates can now pursue careers in corporate sectors, open legal consultancies and firms, and also participate in the competitive examinations including KAS and KCS,” he said, adding that majority of institutions and companies, both private and public across the globe, require legal services, thus increasing the scope of employment for the law graduates. He said the girl students in every professional field are giving stiff competition to boys, despite being engaged in domestic chores.

Addressing the gathering, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar, said that during these programmes, the interaction with the experts, who have marched ahead in their respective fields, will give the students an experiential learning, besides the regular classroom teaching-learning. “The students should inquire from the experts about the challenges and difficulties faced by them while preparing for the competitive examinations and the subsequent measures they took, to overcome the same,” he said. Prof. Zargar asked the students to undertake a self-assessment before choosing any profession in their respective field of study.

In his speech, Dean SLS and Controller of Examinations, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Mir, said, the main objective of holding such programmes is to make the students, especially the girls to strongly believe that they have the potential to crack the competitive examinations and other interviews conducted by different agencies for providing employment. “If the experts present in the programme have done it, so can you,” he told the students. He further said, “Today these experts are an inspiration for you, tomorrow you can be an inspiration for others.”

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Tabasum Wani, Nusrat Hakak and Mubashira Syed asked the students to work hard to achieve their goals. The event was convened by Asst Profs Dr. Rehana Shawl, and co-convened by Dr. Mudasir Bhat, while department coordinator, Mr. Bilal Ahmed Ganaie proposed the vote of thanks.
