Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Pulwama and Budgam districts and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a Statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters, Srinagar, Police said that a police party of the Police Station Kakapora Pulwama during routine checkpoint established at Kandizal crossing intercepted a vehicle (Santro) bearing registration No. JK01N-4285 with three persons on board.
Stating that during searches 5.5Kgs of Poppy Straw were recovered from the said vehicle and all the three drug peddlers were arrested on the spot, Police in it’s statement further said that the accused have been identified as John Mohd Wani S/o Ab Gani Wani R/o Loolipora Nehama Kakapora, Tahir Ahmad Malik S/o Gh Mohd Malik and Tajamul HussainS/o Mohd Ibrahim, both residents of Balhama Srinagar.
“While acting on specific information received by Police Station Kakapora about one Mudasir Ahmad S/o Mohd Shafi Bhat R/o Kadlabal Kakapora having indulged in drug peddling besides having hoarded a large quantity of psychotropic substance in his residential house police raided the said location and during searches, 15 bottles of Codeine were recovered”, reads the above referred Police statement, adding that “the accused person was also arrested on the spot”.
Stating that in a similar action against drug peddlers in Budgam district a police party of Police Post Hardipanzo Beerwah during routine checkpoint established near Qamiru crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, Police in it’s above referred statement said that during searches about 1.2Kgs of Charas like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who has been identified as Mohammad Maqbool Malik @ Sahil S/o Ghulam Nabi Malik R/o Waragam Budgam.
Police in it’s statement also said that all the arrested drug peddlers have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, Stating therein furthermore that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
In the concluding para of the above referred statement, police said that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken as part of the efforts made to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace
