Anantnag : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom, who is also District Election Officer (DEO) on Tuesday, took stock of progress under Special Summary Revision (SSR) at Town Hall, here.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that facilitating citizens to be a part of the electoral process is essential to ensure participative democracy.

He said the aim of Special Summary revision is to provide all eligible citizens the opportunity to enroll as voters. He said as such it is essential that focused and concerted efforts are made by all concerned to ensure that every single eligible citizen is accorded that opportunity.

Reviewing the performance of BLOs, he appreciated the BLOS whose performance was good and felicitated them with awards. He directed other BLOs to ensure the registration of eligible voters within a week to avoid legal action.

He also directed the EROs and AEROs to ensure that methods adopted in achieving registrations till date must be replicated in other areas and to regularly review the performance of BLOs.

Under the banner of SVEEP, the DEO said that activities must be held throughout the district to spread awareness regarding the electoral process.

The Deputy DEO advised the EROs to ensure door to door visits of concerned BLOs for cent percent registration of left over eligible voters. EROs also advised the BLOs to take up the task on priority basis and achieve the target of enrolling all eligible voters before stipulated time.

President MC Anantnag said that MC Anantnag will help the team by deploying the concerned councilors for door to door surveys for the enrollment process.

The DC further reiterated that PRI involvement is essential in reaching out to the eligible citizens.

The programme was attended by AEROs, EROs, concerned BLOs and officials of DEO Anantnag etc.
