Srinagar : As part of Wildlife Week-2022 celebrations, the Department of Wildlife Protection J&K Government, Wetlands Division Kashmir in collaboration with the Department of School Education, Kashmir (Chief Education Officer-Budgam) on Thursday organized an impressive awareness programme at Beat No. 1 of “Mirgund Wetland Conservation Reserve” (WCR), here.
The aim was to raise awareness among stakeholders especially school going children regarding conservation and protection of Mirgund Wetland Conservation Reserve.
On the occasion, Nazir Benazir, Chairman National Society for protection of Water Resources, Forest & Wetlands was the chief guest. The function was attended by Volunteers, Panchayat members of the villages around Mirgund Wetland Conservation Reserve, N.G.O’s, Range Officer, concerned and various officers/officials of the department.
Different speakers highlighted the vital role of healthy Wetlands and pledged to save Mirgund Wetland Conservation Reserve.
After conclusion of the programme a cleanliness drive was conducted in and around the said Wetland in which students of Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Narbal (Budgam) participated.
Further, an Awareness cum Cleanliness drive was also conducted in and around “Shallabugh Wetland Conservation Reserve” in which students of Govt. Middle School Kreshibal and Govt. Middle School, BadiwoodarSangam, Srinagar participated.
At the end of drive Mohd Ashraf Kabli, Range Officer Shallabugh thanked the participants and appealed to all the stakeholders especially students of schools/colleges to join hands with the department of Wildlife Protection for maintaining cleanliness of the “Shallabugh Wetland Conservation Reserve”.
