DC Kishtwar reviews drug abuse eradication measures at NCORD meeting

DM Calls for multi-pronged strategy to curb growing menace

Kishtwar: The District Level Committee of Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) on Friday met here under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner KishtwarDrDevanshYadav.
While reviewing the awareness activities carried out by different departments during the month long NashaMukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan in the district, the chair was apprised that a series of awareness programmes and many sports-related and other activities have been conducted in the district to channelise the potential of the youth towards a positive direction and also to keep them away from drug addiction.
He was informed that Awareness Rallies, Debates, Symposiums, Painting competitions, drum beatings, launching of announcement express/vehicles have been conducted in the district by involving students, PRIs, common masses and different departments.
Besides, Excise, Police, Forest and health departments have launched the special drives to destroy wild cannabis clearing an area of 12 Kanals and 11 marlas at different places of the district. Besides, regular inspection of the Chemist shops and medical stores has been ensured by enforcement agencies to keep check on trafficking and sale of psychotropic drugs in the district, the meeting was told.
Besides, the teams have been constituted to identify the victims and tighten the noose around the drug peddlers.
Speaking at the meeting, the DC asked the stakeholders to work in close coordination and put in dedicated efforts to make Kishtwar a drug free district and keep the youth on the right track so that they can contribute towards the development of the Nation.
“A multi-pronged approach is required to eliminate the drug menace from the society which has deeply penetrated into the society” he said and asked all the stakeholders to collaborate with Police Department to intensify enforcement measures against Drug peddlers.
The CMO was directed to ensure proper staff and Medicare facilities at the designated De-addiction and counseling centre at District Hospital so that the process of rehabilitation of victims through proper counseling and treatment does not suffer.
The meeting was attended by SSP, ShafqatHussainBatt; ADDC, Sham Lal; ADC/programme officer ICDS, KishoriLal Sharma; DFO KishtwarSagar Singh; DFO Marwah, Vijay Kumar; DSWO, Zubair Ahmed, CMO, DrChanderPrakash; CEO, Sudarshan Kumar and other concerned officers.
