Srinagar : Centre for Hospitality and Tourism, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University celebrated World Tourism Day. On the occasion, a local food festival was organised followed by a cultural program.
According to a statement issued from Public Relations Officer of the University the Vice Chancellor Prof. Akbar Masood inaugurated the event. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Akbar said that the observance of World Tourism Day by organising various events can foster awareness of tourism’s social, cultural and economic value and the contribution that Tourism can make towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals. Prof. Akbar mentioned that the Pir Panjaal region has the huge potential to emerge as the most sought-after destination on the world tourism map and the promotion of community-based tourism can play a pivotal role in the socio-economic development of the region. Prof. Akbar applauded the efforts of the Centre in organising the event aimed at promoting the local food and culture. Prof. Akbar visited various local food stalls put up by the students. While complementing students for their wholehearted participation, Prof. Akbar advised them to promote the local tourism destinations and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region and the Country as a whole.
On the occasion, students presented a colourful cultural program consisting of folk songs, folk dance, poetry and folk dance.
Those who were present on the occasion included Registrar of the University Mr Mohd Ishaq, Dean SOET, Prof. Asif Hussain, Dean of Students Dr A A Shah, Associate Dean of Nursing Dr Titi Xavier, Deputy Director CHT Dr Danish Iqbal, Coordinator CHT Mr. As far Ghaus, faculty members and officers of the University.
