DC B’gam chairs RTA/ Distt Road Safety Committee meet

Officers asked to focus on strict enforcement of all road safety measures, immediate assistance & emergency care to accident victims

Budgam :  The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, S F Hamid on Saturday chaired the Regional Transport Authority cum District Road Safety Committee meeting at Conference Hall Budgam.

At the outset, ARTO Budgam, Manzoor Ahmad apprised the chair about the agenda wise details of the work of Road Safety Committee constituted in the district.

He informed that around Rs. 4 lac have been given as compensation to victims of road accidents in this financial year so far.

Stressing on all road safety measures be implemented in letter and spirit, the DC Budgam directed Chief Medical Officer to designate one Nodal officer for prompt data sharing of accident victims for accident fund release to injured or next of kin.

Similar directions were passed to the Revenue department to provide dependent certificates immediately after the death of the victim.

DC directed ARTO to formulate District Road Safety policy.

R&B and other concerned were directed for installation of visible signages on the roads especially near blind spots, curves and schools to avoid accidents.

He directed for training of Drivers, residents of accident-prone areas for first response besides, sharing of schedule of awareness camps, trainings, and rallies in advance of a month so that there is good coordination of man and resources.

Traffic police was instructed to launch an aggressive campaign on implementation of relevant laws across the district and take strict action against the violators.

Directions were passed to the education department and ARTO for mass awareness through print and electronic media, Rallies on “Road Safety Drive” to be organised, Dos and Don’ts to be shared with the public on social media.

DC directed for implementation of “Good Samaritan policy” in the district in letter and spirit under ADC Budgam as Nodal officer. Besides CEO, CMO, Executive engineers of R&B, irrigation and DySP traffic Budgam, DIO, Executive officers of all municipal committees of Budgam were present in the meeting.
