Rajouri : District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal on Saturday chaired a meeting to discuss the modalities for the segregation of solid waste in Panchayats.
Speaking at the meeting, the DDC said that there is a need to scale up solid waste management measures in rural areas to reduce environmental pollution and keep these areas clean.
He said that Self Help Groups can play a major role in solid waste management in gram Panchayats and asked the concerned to mobilize the people to form SGHs.
The DDC maintained that the SHGs would work on the ‘waste to wealth’ concept which aims to identify, develop and deploy technologies to treat waste to generate energy, recycle materials and extract resources of value.
“As many as 178 segregation units will be set up where segregation of waste would be carried out”, said the District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal.
He also asked for submitting DPRs in connection with the procedure to be adopted to carry waste up to segregation units. He also directed for carrying out of a survey about the average solid waste generated in each household in the rural areas.
