DDC Chairman, DC inaugurate Senior Citizen Home in Rajouri

Rajouri :  District Development Council Chairman, Advocate NaseemLiaqat, in presence of Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Kundal, on Tuesday inaugurated a newly constructed Senior Citizen Home (Golden Dawn) in the district.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Vivek Shekhar; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Imran Kataria; District Social Welfare Officer Rajouri, Wakeel Ahmed Bhat; District Information Officer Rajouri, Narinder Kumar, District Youth Coordinator NitinHangloo, Social Activist Vikrant Sharma, and members of the NGO were present during the occasion.

It may also be mentioned that the senior citizen Home has been handed over to the Public Peace and Development NGO for running the facility. The Senior Citizen Home, sponsored by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GoI, will be supervised by the Department of Social Welfare.

After the inauguration, the DDC chairman and the Deputy Commissioner inspected the complex and its surroundings.

The district social Welfare Officer informed us that the building has a capacity to accommodate 50 people with double and triple-bedded rooms and attached bathrooms.

The building also has a dining hall, a kitchen, a reception room, a caretaker’s room and an administrative office, he added.

Any person desirous to lodge in the facility has to apply at the Social Welfare Department along with certain documents and certificates.

While interacting with the members of the NGO, the Deputy Commissioner reiterated that all those elders who have been abandoned by their children due to unknown reasons can come and live in the old age home.

“We are committed to providing all home-like facilities to the inmates,” he added.

The DDC Chairman, while speaking at the event, said that this old age home will take care of the homeless elderly persons.

He asked DSWO and the caretaker NGO to provide the inmates   homelike facilities so that they can lead a peaceful life.
