Chairman DDC Kupwara reviews measures for controlling of Lumpy Skin Disease

Kupwara :  The Chairman, District Development Council (DDC) Kupwara, Irfan Sultan Pandiporion Monday chaired a meeting of officers of Animal and Sheep Husbandry departments to review the measures taken by District Administration and Animal Husbandry department regarding controlling of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD).

The meeting held threadbare discussion with regard to preventive measures and the Chairman received feedback from the officers regarding the disease.

The Chairman said that people need not to worry about the Lumpy Skin Disease as the Administration is putting concerted efforts to keep the disease at bay. In case of any emergency, the Chairman said that the people can contact Helpline Numbers of the department and also can get help from concern PRIs.

He said there is a difference between the facts and the rumors coming out regarding the disease.

Earlier, while reviewing the disease controlling measures, the Chairman was informed that as many as 597 animals are affected out of which 35 deaths have been recorded due to LSD so far in the district and most affected areas are Karnah, Trehgam and Kupwara.

He was also informed that 15000 animals have been vaccinated while as, 10000 more doses will become available shortly.

Responding to the demand put forward by the concerned officers regarding the availability of free vaccines to the affected animals, the Chairman asked them to submit a proposal for the required quantity of medicines so that he can put up the matter with the higher authorities on priority basis.

He also appealed to the people especially living in LSD affected areas to confine and segregate the affected animals to prevent the spread of the disease.

Responding to the demand for involvement of Municipality in fogging the affected areas, the Chairman directed all Municipalities to cooperate with the Animal Husbandry department and ensure required fogging wherever necessary.

Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kupwara, Dr. Mohammad Ashraf, District Sheep Husbandry Officer and Disease Investigation Officer also spoke on the occasion and briefed the chair.  Among others, DIO Kupwara and AD Planning were present in the meeting.
