Srinagar: Three people including a man and his son were killed and another injured when a house collapsed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, official sources said.
Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom issued ex gratia relief of Rs 50,000 each to the families of victims who lost their lives in the tragic incident at Daksum. Besides items including blankets and kitchen utensils were also provided to the families.
They said a mud house (kotha) caved in suddenly during the early hours of Sunday in Mather Patheri Bahak, a forest in Daksum are of Kokernag in south Kashmir due to which four people including the owner of the house were buried under the debris.
The people living nearby immediately started a rescue operation after learning about the incident and evacuated all the four and shifted them to a nearby hospital for treatment.
However, the doctors declared three among the four dead on arrival.
The deceased have been identified as Manzoor Gursi, Hajra, Gorsi residents of Badhard and Begum and Asif Bidhard. 12-year-old Shakeena daughter of Hussain Gorsi is safe and is with her family, they added.
“Deeply anguished by the loss of lives due to a house collapse in Larnoo, Anantnag. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Directed district administration to ensure best possible treatment to the injured & immediate assistance to the affected families”, Office of the LG said in a tweet.
