KVK, IFFCO organize one-day campaign on PoshanAbhiyan, Tree Plantation

Samba : Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba, in collaboration with IFFCO on Saturday organised a campaign on PoshanAbhiyan and Tree Plantation at its head quarter Samba to celebrate 72nd Birthday of Prime Minister   NarendraModi. The event was held under the guidance of a Professor. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and the aegis of Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-J.

Chief Guest of the programme, KeshavDutt Sharma, Chairman DDC Samba, discussed in detail the importance of PoshanAbhiyan and tree Plantation.

The DDC appreciated the work of KrishiVigyan Kendra, Samba. He said that in a very short span of time KrishiVigyan Kendra has reached in each nook and corner of the district and KVK team is working tirelessly for the welfare of the farming community. He also discussed the farmers/farm women regarding the various flagship programmes of the Union Govt for the welfare of the farming community. He urged the farmers to remain in touch with the KVK Samba for every type of information, help and other activities related to the agriculture and allied sectors.

The DDC Chairman also planted a sapling in the premises of KVK Samba.

Earlier, the programme was initiated by Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Chief Scientist & Head of KVK, Samba who welcomed the guests and the participants. He highlighted the theme for this year’s campaign on “PoshanAbhiyan and Tree Plantation”. In his address to the  gathering, he laid focus on initiating this programme through KVKs in the country for reducing malnutrition, improving the intake of quality nutrition among the farming community as well as to increase green cover in the country. He also spoke for the adoption of new techniques to increase agriculture production as well as to increase farmer income.

During the programme, Dr. Neerja Sharma, Senior Scientist Horticulture delivered her lecture to the  farmers about Vegetable based nutri-garden is the richest source of nutrition and can play an active role in eradicating under nutrition. Nutri-garden is an advanced form of kitchen garden in which vegetables are grown as a source of food and income.

Dr. A.K. Sinha Senior Scientist & Head laid thrust on agriculture equipment’s and machinery for saving the time of farmers. Dr. Saurav Gupta, Scientist Entomology sensitized the farmers about the importance of cultivation of organic Vegetable crops. He also stressed upon the judicious use of pesticides in crops and Integrated Pest Management.

Dr. Vijay Kumar sharma, Scientist Animal Science elaborated on Goat farming and its potential for entrepreneurship development among the farming community of district Samba. Dr. Shalini  has delivered lectures on Soil testing and its importance in agriculture. Dr. AmitMahajan stressed upon the various weed problems and their management in major Rabi crops.

Sahil Field Officer, IFFCO also informed the farmers about the various objectives of the IFFCO as well as about the Liquid Nano Urea which is found to be effective to increase the production, less use of urea as well as to improve the nutritional quality of the crops.

Morethan, 105 farmers of the different villages of district Samba actively participated in the programme. During the programme, vegetable kits for rabi season were distributed among farmers to create awareness among the people about the establishment of nutri gardens in their respective families. A large number of saplings of different plants were also distributed among farmers to increase the green cover of the district.

The proceeding of the programme was carried out by Dr. Saurav Gupta and vote of thanks was extended by Dr. A.K. Sinha. Mr. Bharat Bhushan and Pawandeep Singh assisted in the successful organization of the programme.
