GMC Jammu organizes CME on Palliative Care, Cancer Pain Management under ISA aegis

Jammu : Government Medical College, Jammu, organized CME on Palliative Care and Cancer Pain Management under the aegis of Indian Society of Anaesthesia (ISA), Jammu here on Saturday.

The CME, organized by Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine, GMC, was inaugurated by Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Bhupinder Kumar. Mission Director, National Health Mission, J&K, Ayushi Sudan, was the guest of honour on the occasion.

The theme of the conference was Palliative Care and Cancer Pain Management among the doctors in Jammu region.

Principal and Dean, GMC, Jammu, Dr.ShashiSudhan Sharma, besides other senior officers and staff was present.

Bhupinder Kumar, while speaking on the occasion, said that the National Palliative Care programme was started in 2012 with primary aim of improving quality of life in patients suffering from chronic or debilitating illnesses which may be not curable. He said that an interdisciplinary and multispecialty co-ordination was required for success of the programme.

Secretary added that awareness regarding the availability of facilities for palliative care is imperative to extend the benefit of such vital services to the needy public. He asked the Anaesthesia faculty to train more and more doctors in palliative care while assuring them full support for successful implementation of the programme.

Proceedings of the conference were chaired by Dr.AnjuJamwal, Professor and Head, Department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine.

Dr.SushmaBhatnagar, Professor and Head, Onco-Anaesthesia and Palliative Care, AIIMS New Delhi delivered the presidential address.

Experts from various premier institutes of the country joined the CME to impart knowledge and share views on the issues of palliative care and pain management.

Faculty of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine including namely Dr.NaineBhadrala, Dr.Shruti Gupta, Dr.Neha Sharma, Dr.RajdeepKour carried out the scientific proceedings. In addition to real time proceeding of the conference, it was available on online mode.

More than 200 delegates attended the proceedings of the conference.
