6 drug peddlers arrested in Shopian,contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has arrested six drug peddlers in a series of actions across Kashmir and also recovered huge quantity of contraband substances from their possession.

In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Police Police said that in Shopian district, a police party of Police Station Heerpora at a checkpoint established on Mughal Road at Dubjan, intercepted a vehicle (Truck) bearing registration no PB02EH-4676 with four person on board identified as Sharangeet Sing S/O Bulvinder Sing R/O KhapadKheeri Amritsar Punjab, Mohd RafiqGanie S/O Abdul Aziz Ganie R/O Hermain Shopian, Raj Kumar S/O Sham Lal R/O Pind Baghykay Athhard District Fazalka Punjab and Gurjanat Sing S/O Gisvinder Sing R/O Geevanda Khurad District Tarantarn Punjab. Police in it’s above referred statement also said that 325Kgs of Poppy Straw were recovered during searches from the possession of the above named accused.

Police in it’s statement further more said that in a similar action in Pulwama, Police on receiving inputs about two persons namely Fayaz Ahmad Bhat S/O Gulam Rasool Bhat R/O Parigam and Abdul Rashid Bhat S/O Mohd ShabanBhat R/O Konjipora having indulged in drug peddling and hoarding large quantities of contraband substances in their residential houses raided the said locations along with respective Executive Magistrates. Stating that during search of the said houses, 88 Kgs of Poppy Straw were recovered from the said residential houses, Police in it’s statement however said that the accused persons escaped from the spot and efforts are on to effect their arrest.

In it’s statement police furthermore said that it had established a checkpoint at Tahab Chowk Pulwama intercepted two suspected persons carrying a bag who tried to flee from the spot after noticing police party but were apprehended tactfully and identified as Naseer Ahmad Dar S/O Gulam Hassan Dar & Hilal Ahmad Wani S/O Abdul Khaliq Wani, both residents of Ghat Tiken Pulwama. Stating that during checking, 12 Kgs of Poppy straw was recovered from the possession of the above named accused who have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody, Police in it’s statement further said that it has registered different cases under relevant sections of law at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated to ascertain the facts.

In the concluding para of the above quoted statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt strictly as per law.
