Int’l Cricketer Ajay Sharma to be the Coach of Senior Men’s Team of JKCA

Jammu|: Member Administration J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) has notified the appointment of Ajay Shatma a top run maker in first class cricket of International repute as Head Coacj of Men’s Senior team of J&K Cricket Association (JKCA).
In a statement issued on Monday the J&K Cricket Association (JKCA) said that Ajay Sharma, a prolific run maker in first-class cricket, who had scored more than 10,000 runs at an average of 67.46 as an aggressive middle-order batsman and an orthodox left-arm spinner has been selected as the Head Coach of the Men’s Senior team of JKCA. The statement issued by the Member Administration, JKCA has notified the appointment of Ajay Sharma.
The Statement issued by Brigadier (Retd) Anil Gupta reads “In order to ensure continuity, the selection committee preferred the same set of coaches who were selected during the last season but Sanjeev Sharma, Head Coach in the last season was not available due to other commitments,” adding that ” Hence Ajay Sharma who has played for India, Delhi, and HP and holds the record of batting average close to 80 in Ranji Trophy, which is second only to Sh. Vijay Merchant was given nod by the Selection Committee and appointed Head Coach of the Senior Men’s team” .
The Statement further reads “In his illustrious career spanning over two decades, he captained India ‘A’, India ‘B’, Delhi, and North Zone teams. He made his test debut in 1988 against West Indies In the same year, he made his ODI debut and played 31 ODI between 1988 and 1993 Won the man of the match award 4 times, one each against Australia and Zimbabwe, and two against New Zealand”. The statement further said that Ajay Sharma’s batting average of 67.14 is the 4th best in domestic cricket history across the globe after the greats like Sir Donald Bradman, Vijay Merchant, and George Headly.
Welcoming Ajay Sharma Sunil Sethi and Mithun Manhas, members of the Sub-Committee, according to the statement, hoped that with his expertise and experience, he would contribute immensely to improving the skills and performance of the JKCA team. “After retirement from active cricket, he has been actively involved in coaching and as a Selector across various formats. He will be joining the Team at Srinagar where the Fitness Assessment cum Conditioning Camp is already underway”, sad Brig Gupta in his above referred statement.
