Tokyo: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday called on Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the conclusion of India-Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue.

Their Japanese counterparts Minister of Defense Yasukazu Hamada and Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi were also present on the occasion.

“Delighted to meet Japan’s Prime Minister Mr. Fumio Kishida in Tokyo. Extended my heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of Former Prime Minister, HE Shinzo Abe,” said Rajnath Singh taking to Twitter.

India-Japan partnership will have a defining role to play in ensuring peace and stability in the region, the Defence Minister added.

“Pleased to call on PM Fumio Kishida at the conclusion of our 2+2 meeting. Underlined the importance of closer coordination of policies and interests of India and Japan at this time,” said Jaishankar in a tweet.

Expressed confidence that the vision which he and PM Narendra Modi have articulated will be realised early, the EAM added in thread.

During the second India Japan 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue on Thursday, the two Ministers agreed to further increase the scope and complexities of the bilateral military exercises while emphasising that strong India-Japan ties are very important for a free, open, rule-based and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

The two Ministers noted with pleasure that the air services of the two countries are working closely for the early conduct of inaugural India-Japan fighter exercise.

The Joint Statement issues after the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue said that “The Ministers also expressed their shared intention to make continuous efforts towards more complex and sophisticated bilateral exercise.”
