Anantnag : The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom on Thursday  reviewed the functioning of Jal Shakti Department in the district.

At the outset, the DC outlined that the JalJeevan Mission is a flagship program of the Government. He said that while works have been tendered and allotted, the officials must ensure regular monitoring to ensure proper quality control in the constructions. He said that the department must strictly adhere to timelines to ensure that all projects are completed without delay.

Dr. Basharat reviewed the projects being taken up by Jal Shakti, Irrigation as well as Flood Control under NABARD, District CAPEX, Area Development Fund and Languishing. He directed the concerned Executive Engineers to ensure that works related to irrigation are taken up in lean months to avoid inconvenience to farmers.

Important projects were discussed including slow sand filtration plants at Watalbagh and Arigam.

The officers were directed to ensure that any ROW issues should be taken up with the revenue department immediately so they can be resolved at the earliest.

SE Jal Shakti apprised the chair of status of works under execution at present. He said that while some works have already been completed, every effort is being made to complete the works by November.

The DC stressed on interdepartmental coordination to prevent delays and directed the officials to impose penalties where contracting agencies fail to execute the project within time.

ADDC, JD Planning, SE Jal Shakti, Executive Engineers from all divisions including Irrigation and Flood Control as well as subordinate staff from the department were present.
