JMC hosts seminar on promotion of Resident Welfare Association Culture in Jmu

Jammu :  A seminar on promotion of Resident Welfare Association (RWA) Culture in Jammu city was organised by Jammu Municipal Corporation on Wednesday here in collaboration with National Confederation of RWAs- UP, Ghaziabad.

The program was attended by Mayor JMC Chander Mohan Gupta; Deputy Mayor JMC, Advocate Purnima Sharma; Commissioner JMC, Rahul Yadav,  officers of JMC, President National Confederation of RWAs, Col T P Tayagi along with his team, councillors of JMC and the Resident welfare association members of Jammu.

Speaking on the occasion,  Mayor JMC said that JMC is looking forward to improving its delivery mechanism and one of the best steps is to have strong RWAs in every neighbourhood. “RWAs are the finest expression of civil society consensus; an answer to urban problems; a tool for community building and for self-management and direct democracy” he added. He said that the programme is being organised with the objective to make RWAs functional in Jammu and to make them aware of their legal rights and duties and provide a platform for open discussion.

Col TP Tayagi and his team, through a powerpoint presentation, explained about the role of RWAs, how RWAs can be formed, approach of RWAs and how RWAs and Councillors are complementary to each other.

In essence, it demonstrated how an RWA can act as an ambassador for various burning issues like sanitation, water harvesting, plantation and awareness campaigns. They added that RWAs have played a major role in improving many major cities in the past decade and Awe hope we will keep up with the pace in the forthcoming decades too

Speaking on the occasion Deputy Mayor Purnima Sharma appreciated the efforts of Col Tayagi and team. She added that we are working on every aspect for the betterment of Jammu people of Jammu and it’s everyone’s responsibility to work for a clean and green Jammu.

Later, an interaction session cum discussion was held with the councillors as well as officers of the JMC.

The team of National Confederation of RWAs was felicitated by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioner JMC.

The program ended with the vote of thanks by Secretary JMC.
