Police organizes awareness rally against drug abuse in B’gam

Wild bung also destroyed in the Distt

Srinagar: Police in Budgam on Tuesday organized an awareness rally against drug abuse under the banner of “Prevention of drug addiction”. The rally was attended by students and staff members of Government HSS School Khansahab& IPTS Heights School Khansahab besides, Municipal Committee members, trade union Khansahab, youth and respectables of the area also participated in the rally.

According to a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters, the awareness rally was flagged off by SDPO Khansahab GhulamMohi-u-Din Malik at Sub. District Hospital Khansahab along with SHO Khansahab and other officers of police and Municipal committee Khansahab. The rally passed through various routes of Sub-division Khansahab and culminated near Government Degree College Khansahab.

The main aim of the rally was to spread awareness about ill effects of drug abuse and its consequences. SDPO Khansahib on the event appealed the general public to join hands with Police in fighting against the abuse of drug & related substances to eliminate this social evil from the society. Students/participants were holding banners and placards in their hands with messages against drug abuse and raised slogans against the social evil and pledged to join their hands to eradicate this menace from the society.

On this occasion,  the police officers headed by SHO Police Station Budgam and officials from Municipal committee Budgam launched a special drive against wild weed bung in Main Town Budgam and its adjacent areas and destroyed huge quantity of wild weed bung. Similarly, another joint team comprising of officials of Police Post Watrihail and Excise Department officials headed by NaibTehsildar Mushtaq Ahmad along with incharge PP Watrihail launched a drive against wild weed bung in Main Town Waterhail and its adjacent areas and destroyed wild weed bung. General public of the area have appreciated the action of Police and have urged to continue such drive in nearby areas also.

In the concluding para of the above referred statement police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding cultivation of contrabands in their neighbourhood but warned found indulging in drug peddling & cultivation of contraband substances shall be dealt as per law.
