Rajouri : Special Gram Sabhas were on Tuesday organized here across all 312 Panchayats of the district to sensitise the general public about the health and social hazards of drug abuse.
The sensitisationprogrammes, under the aegis of NashaMukt Bharat campaign, were organised on the directions of the District Development Commissioner, VikasKundal.
During the gram sabhas, the participants were educated about the challenges posed by drug abuse and ways to guide and groom the youth to save them from falling in the addiction trap.
The participants were informed that besides de-addicting the drug users, there is a dire need to address the major reasons which provoke the youth to take drugs. They were also urged to work religiously to eliminate drug abuse from the district and make Rajouri and NashaMukt district.
The PRIs were urged to make people aware about the bad effects of drugs and supplement the efforts of the District Administration for a happy and prosperous society.
Pledges to make the society free of drugs were also administered to the participants on the occasions. The message of protecting the society from drug abuse was also conveyed through Drum beating.
Block Development Officer, Plangarh went door to door to educate the general public about the ill effects of substance abuse and highlighted the measures taken by the district administration to fight the drug menace.
The parents were appealed to keep a close watch on their children and immediately take cognizance if they notice anything suspicious or if there is a change in behavior of their children.
