Dhaka: The Irrawaddy reports that Myanmar’s junta government has carried out airstrikes in the northern Rakhine state bordering Bangladesh. The junta government retaliated after the Arakan Army (AA) attacked a police outpost in Maungdo township.
On Wednesday, the outpost was captured by members of the Arakan Army. They killed 19 police officers. They also seized firearms, ammunition and other equipment.
Then on Thursday, the junta government launched three airstrikes with warplanes and helicopters. Irrawaddy published this news citing local residents.
A resident told Irrawaddy that two warplanes and a helicopter were attacked in the morning. Later in the afternoon two warplanes and two helicopters attacked.
The junta government said on Thursday troops have been ordered to occupy the outpost. That is why troops and weapons are being sent there. Villagers said the ground was shaking under their feet and deafening with the sound of the attack.
Incidentally, fighting has been going on since August 2 in that area and Paletwa township of neighboring China province. Attacks by Arakan Army have increased in these areas. The junta government of Myanmar is responding.
