DLC discusses measures to curb drug menace in Udhampur

Udhampur :  District Magistrate, Udhampur Krittika Jyotsna, on Thursday chaired a District Level Committee meeting under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to discuss the measures to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the District.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on a range of issues related to incidence of drug addiction, rehabilitation, de-addiction and mental health counseling beside other areas of concern, hot spots of drug abuse and cultivation of illicit poppy, cannabis in the district was also discussed.

The DM Udhampur asked for keeping vigil on illicit cultivation of poppy or cannabis crops and to ensure zero tolerance against indulging in such activities.

Tehsildar Udhampur was directed to identify land for the construction of Rehabilitation Centre in the district, while the Chief Medical Officer was directed to make  the rehabilitation  center operational at CHC Chenani.

To educate the general public about the ill effects of drug addiction, the DM directed the concerned departments to start a month long awareness drive and camps in schools, colleges and other public places by involving PRIs, students ,locals and other stakeholders.

The education department was asked to promote anti-drug abuse awareness in all educational institutions and acquaint the students aboutits ill effects on the health of society.

The Police department was asked to keep strict vigil on drug proliferation, consumption and intensify awareness against such addictive substances involving concerned stakeholders from civil administration.

The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police, Vinod Kumar; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mohd. Syed Khan; Divisional Forest Officer, Sheveta Jandial; Chief Education Officer, Arvin Koul;  Chief Medical Officer, Dr Vijay Basnotra; Chief Agriculture Officer, Sanjay Kumar;  District Social Welfare Officer, Kanika Gupta and other concerned officers were present in the meeting & respective tehsil officials attended the meeting in virtually mode.
