BGSBU organises IPR awareness prog

Rajouri : Start-Up & Innovation Cell, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri conducted an “Intellectual Property Rights awareness” Programme under the aegis of Kalam Program for Intellectual Property Literacy and Awareness Campaign (KAPILA) as part of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav celebration.

According to a statement issued from the Public Relations Office of the University the event had been supported by Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell (MIC), Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal trade (DPIIT) and Indian Patent Office (IPO) under the banner of National IP Awareness Mission (NIPAM). Shri Nitish Agrawal, Examiner of Patents & Design, Indian Patent Office (IPO) was the speaker of the event. The programme was conducted in a blended mode where the speaker and the participants from various other colleges and Universities connected online. However, there was an offline gathering for the in-house students and faculty in University Smart classroom. Prof. Akbar Masood, Vice-Chancellor, BGSB University in his message conveyed that there is a dire need to sensitize students and faculty in Higher Education with regard to Patents, Copyrights and Trademarks. He praised the efforts of MIC, AICTE and DPIIT for conducting Intellectual Property Rights Awareness programs under the flagship of KAPILA. Prof. Akbar mentioned that

With phenomenal growth of the Indian Economy it is vital that IPRs generated in India are  legally protected. Prof. Akbar said that  awareness is must amongst students, youth, authors, artists, budding inventors and professionals to inspire them to create, innovate and protect their creations and inventions .

Prof. Iqbal Parwez, Dean Academic Affairs and President IIC expressed his gratitude to IPO and choosing BGSBU among the 75 Centers Nation wide for holding this awareness programme. Prof. Iqbal said that in order to inculcate the scientific temper amongst the students and to see the increase in the number of Patent filing in Higher Educational Institutions, technical and legal aspects associated with IPR need to be well understood. Prof. Iqbal further shared that the University also has about 11 patents filed by the students and faculty and is further on the path of creating an ecosystem promoting innovation. The speaker Shri Nitish Agrawal delivered an exhaustive presentation on patents, Copyrights, Trademarks and Geographical Indications. He presented the worldwide scenario with reference to the top listed countries in patent filing. He urged the students to get their novel ideas in terms of either product or process patented before publishing. Mr. Nitish provided details on the various stages involved in patent publishing till award. The presentation was followed by an interactive session with the audience. More than 200 participants registered for the event. Dr. Farkhanda Ana, Convener IIC, Dr. Nasir Rather, Start-up activity coordinator and Mr. Junaid Farooq, IPR activity coordinator organized the event.   Mr. Malik Mubashir, Principal Polytechnic and a number of other faculty members were also present.
