VC KU inaugurates one-day workshop on innovations, entrepreneurship

Srinagar : Vice Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Nilofer Khan on Tuesday inaugurated a workshop on ‘Fostering the Culture of Entrepreneurship and Innovations’.

According to the statement issued by the PRO KU here, the day-long workshop was organised by the Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA)  in collaboration with Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (CCMP), Bengaluru.

Addressing academics, officers and students on the occassion, Prof Nilofer underlined the importance of developing the culture of innovations in the University for its better rankings and greater visibility at the national and international levels.

“We have been doing well in areas of teaching and research as is visible from our NIRF ranking and NAAC accreditation. However, we have to gear up in the area of innovations to fair better in future rankings and assessments,” the Vice-Chancellor said, appreciating team DIQA for organising the workshop that aims to educate the student and faculty participants on varied aspects of innovations and entrepreneurship.

In his special remarks, Registrar DrNisar A Mir, who was a guest of honour, said the University has been providing good funding under several projects for innovations which are presently underway. He said more funding could be sought from different agencies to further boost innovations and entrepreneurship.

On this occasion, Director DIQA Prof Manzoor A Shah delivered the welcome address and pointed out the linkage of innovations with the University’s ranking and accreditation.

He also said that this workshop aims to give a serious direction to enable the University to make a good mark in innovations, and eventually, patenting.

Speaking on this occasion, DrJameel Khan, Manager, Innovations and Entrepreneurship, CCMP delivered the keynote address and also gave a detailed power-point presentation on entrepreneurship.

“It’s important to see how we can translate the discoveries done through research into innovations to help the society at large. The current workshop is a modest beginning in this direction,” he said.

Addressing the gathering, MrShowketShafi, Deputy Director DIQA conducted proceedings and delivered a vote of thanks at the inaugural session, which was attended by several Deans, HoDs, faculty members and officers of the University.

Later, experts spoke in technical and brainstorming sessions, including Dr Vishal Bhardwaj, Scientific Consultant CCMP; DrAbrarRizvi, Founder and CEO Matriverse Innovations; NaveedChikan, Founder and CEO Daskdan Innovations, and DrDarakshanMajid, DrBasharatNabi from IUST.

The Dean Research KU Prof Irshad A Nawchoo chaired the valedictory session and distributed certificates among the participants.

According to the concluding para of the above referred statement, OzairNisar, Liaison Officer DIQA presented vote of thanks at the valedictory session.
