Dir Agri (J) inaugurates distribution of vegetable seedlings raised under NVPGH

Jammu : Director Agriculture Production & Farmers’ Welfare, Jammu, K. K. Sharma on Saturday inaugurated distribution of vegetable seedlings raised on scientific lines under Naturally Ventilated Poly Green House (NVPGH) here at  KrishiBhawan, TalabTillo.

The seedlings of different vegetable crops and varieties are being raised here and distributed among the vegetable growers of Jammu on a no profit and no loss basis.

Director Agriculture handed over the vegetable seedlings (Knolkhol& Cauliflower) to farmers including HarbansLal and Ashok Kumar of Ghomanhasa.

The Director Agriculture stressed on full utilization of available land under the Vegetable Improvement Scheme in a rotational manner for production of healthy vegetable seedlings. Disease free healthy seedlings help in making the vegetable growing a profitable business, he added.

It was appraised on the occasion that about 2.0 Lakh seedlings of Cabbage, Cauliflower, KnolKhol, Haag-saag, lettuce and broccoli have been raised under NVPGH structures at KrishiBhawan as first lot of Rabi 2022 season for distribution among the farmers. Further it was informed that 1500 Medicinal/Aromatic plants (27 Types) and 5000 Ornamental plants are also ready for sale

Later, the Director Agriculture also planted Piper Betel, Tulsi and Stevia plants at Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Nursery. Betel is rich source of vitamin C and possesses anti-carcinogenic properties. Meanwhile harvesting of Sweet Corn was also kick started by the Director Agriculture.

Joint Director (Farms), Vijay Upadhaya, Agronomist (Vegetables),  J. C. Raina, Assistant  Botanist, Ambika Rani, FDA, Rohit Singh Balloria , Manager JPAEF, ArunJaral and RA, Manmohan Singh were also present on the occasion.
