SPIC MACAY founder visits GDC Samba

Samba :   Pt. PremNath Dogra Government Degree College, Samba on Thursday hosted a function to honour Dr. Kiran Seth, Padma Shree, an ex-IIT Professor and the founder of the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture among Youth (SPIC MACAY) here during his 145 day  cycling mission from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. He was accompanied by Dr. SapnaSangra, Chairperson, SPIC MACAY, Jammu& Kashmir.

On this occasion, the faculty members and the enthusiastic students of the College accompanied him for a cycling spree from Chichi Mata to the College Campus.

Dr. Surinder Sharma, the Principal of the college along with the students, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets, students and faculty members from different schools of the district, welcomed him at the gate with garlands and a loud round of applause.

He was formally welcomed by Dr. Surinder Kumar Sharma, Principal of the host institution.

An interactive session was held in the college Smart Room with the students, faculty members and citizens of Samba. He spoke about the phenomenal growth of SPIC MACAY from the time of its Inception.

The session began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the distinguished guests. The function was also attended by Rajinder Singh, ADDC Samb, Suram Chand Sharma, ADC Samba and other prominent citizens of the Samba district.

DrSapnaSangra, Chairperson SPIC MACAY, gave a detailed account of the different programmes and activities being organized by SPIC Macay

During his interaction with the students, Dr.Kiran Seth laid emphasis, especially, on the importance of honing the skill of concentration of the students. He also spoke on the Western and Indian concept of development i.e. how Western concept is experimentation based and Indian concept is experiential based. He stressed that for the wholesome growth of an individual parallel processing of both the channels is important. For this, he emphasized upon the relevance of Indian classical music, especially, Tanpura as the Indian classical music activates parallel processing channels of the brain. He also gave many vital tips to the students for increasing concentration by meditation and yoga.  He explained the importance of cycling in the life of students. The event culminated with a question- answer session during which the students posed a number of queries that were, convincingly, addressed by Dr. Seth.

A formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Pawan Kumar Gupta, Head of Department of Commerce.

The session was conducted by Dr. GeetaLakhotra, NSS Programme Officer. At the end students, teachers and other dignitaries extended best wishes to him for his expedition from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.
