Thousands of devotees throng Sankri  Mela on second day

Udhampur:  Despite incessant rains and inclement weather conditions, thousands of devotees thronged the Sankri mela on the second day to seek the blessing of Sankri Devta amid festivity and religious spirit here on Wednesday.

District Development Council Chairperson Udhampur Lal Chand also visited the Sankri mela  and paid obeisance at Sankri Devta temple. The DDC Chairperson congratulated the people and said that such melas help in exchanging cultural and traditional values. “These Melas play a pivotal role in spreading the message of brotherhood, peace and prosperity,” he added.

Emphasizing on preserving rich culture and traditional values of the area, the Chairperson DDC said that such religious congregations were an essential part of our culture.

The day also witnessed varied sports activities organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports Udhampur, besides cultural programmes presented by artists and students of different educational institutions, which was highly appreciated by one and all.

The District administration has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Mela making provision of uninterrupted power supply, safe drinking water, sanitation, Medicare, Police Control Room, Assistance Booth and security have been made at the mela site. The departments  have also put up their stalls to educate the people about government schemes.

A number of temporary sweet shops, toy shops and eatery corners set up by the locals as well as outside vendors were the main attraction for the general public visiting the mela site.  Langers were also organised by various organisations at the mela site.

Among others, DDC Councillor Panchari – Moungri, Jasvir Singh, Mela Officer, Vipan Kumar,  BDC Udhampur Balwan Singh, BDC Panchari, Jeevan Sharma, Ex- Legislature, Pawan Kumar Gupta besides officers of various departments President Sankri Devta Development Committee, Parbhat Singh, Panches, Sarpanches and people in large were present on the occasion.
