DD Council, Admin to make joint efforts for saturation of major policies, schemes: DDC Kupwara

DM also addresses Block Diwas at Sogam Lolab, Wadipora-Handwara, Konagabra-Karnah

Kupwara : The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Doifode Sagar Dattatray on Tuesday chaired a Mega Block Diwas function at block headquarter Sogam of Kupwara district.

SSP Kupwara, Yogal Manhas; DDC Member Sogam, Nasir Lone; SDM Sogam, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat; CAHO, CAO, AD Food, Executive Engineer PDD, DSHO, Tehsildar, BDO, block officers, besides, PRIs and people in large number participated in the block diwas function.

Addressing the block diwas, the DDC said “I feel privileged to have my first Block Diwas event in the most beautiful valley of Lolab after assuming the charge as Deputy Commissioner Kupwara.

The DDC said that the importance of Block Diwas lies in the fact that the officers from administration come together and listen to issues of the people at their doorsteps which provide a distinct experience to them.

The DDC said the District Development Council is now with us which has an imperative role in making saturation of major policies and centrally sponsored schemes in the district in coordination with the administration. He said that it is the joint responsibility of both PRIs and administration to fix the loopholes in the public delivery system to make it more vibrant and responsive.

The DDC directed the officers to focus on their specialised areas and be more proactive in the field to resolve maximum issues of the people.

Referring to the big developmental projects, the DDC said that projects like Medical College and Four Lane road have already been taken up which shall provide major relief to the people of Kupwara district in terms of better connectivity and healthcare facilities after their completion.

Regarding Education, the DDC directed the CEO to ensure maintaining a proper teacher-student ratio in the area for better results on ground.

Regarding drug menace, the DDC said that J&K Government is committed to eradication of drug menace and appealed to PRIs and civil society for joint efforts in uprooting the menace from the district. Regarding Agriculture, the DDC directed the Chief Agriculture Officer to sit with the people and demonstrate cultivation of different high yield varieties of vegetables and double cropping to improve the farmers income.

Emphasizing the role of Gram Sabhas, the DDC said that the plans made by Gram Sabhas have to be prioritized for consideration to ensure good governance at grassroot level.

The DDC assured the PRIs and the people that in the coming days an action plan will be formulated by the District Administration in coordination with officers to make public delivery smoother and better.  Earlier, DDC Member and PRIs spoke and put forth developmental issues of their concerned areas before the DDC.

The DDC heard them patiently and directed the concerned officers for disposal of the issues raised. The Block Diwas programme was also held at Wadipora Handwara which was chaired by ADC Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir. At Konagabra-Karnah, Block Diwas was chaired by SDM Karnah, Dr. Gulzar Ahmad Rather.  PRIs, general public and officers from local administration attended the block diwas programmes. People and PRIs projected their issues which were given reply by the officers.
