Samoon reviews progress on Dev of Skill Institutions across J&K

Srinagar:  Principal Secretary, Skill Development Department, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoonon Monday reviewed the progress of action taken on various decisions/directions made in recent meeting with the Chief Secretary on development of Skill institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by Director, SDD; Chief Engineers; General Manager, JKPCC; Principals of Polytechnic Colleges and Superintendents of ITIs. Out station officers attended the meeting through video conferencing.

The Principal Secretary during the meeting impressed upon all to deliver on all the agenda items on the set timelines. He advised them to work in coordination with each other so that the instant decision is smoothly implemented on ground. He asked them to continuously assess the progress and take proactive measures in resolving the hindrances faced, if any.

Dr Samoon was informed that there were more than a dozen of decisions taken in the meeting with Chief Secretary. It was further given out that many of them are nearing completion and some are at different stages of implementation.

It was revealed in the meeting that regarding the formulation of skill plans at Panchayat level the concerned Deputy Commissioners have been provided the requisite format for completion. Similarly more than 2500 women SHG members of JKRLM had been trained in first phase and around 700 in 2nd phase.

The meeting was informed that the subject experts from industrial houses like Ashoka Leyland, Toyata and thpse from Industrial estate of Lassipora were invited to interact with the youth for guidance and handholding. It was said that work on 22 polytechnics and 52 ITIs is swiftly under process to turn them into centres of excellence.

The Principal Secretary was also informed that a committee has been constituted to revisit the course content in line with the New Education Policy-2020. Regarding the placement of students some 448 and 910 placements were made in ITIs and Polytechnics respectively in the year 2021. The online student feedback and analysis portal is under process and would be launched very soon, as was briefed in the meeting.

As far as the exposure visits of students are concerned it was said that students are taken in batches to CIIIT at Jammu and Baramulla besides to CoE at ITI Budgam/Kathua for their best understanding of the subject. The students are also made aware about different start-up schemes by the personnel of J&K Bank, DIC and EDI so that they can have good knowledge of avenues to fulfill their entrepreneurial aspirations, as was deliberated in the meeting.

The meeting also held threadbare discussion over the provision of guest lectures by the industrial experts, setting up of CIPET centre, biometric attendance of staff, monthly ranking and key performance indicators of skill imparting institutions besides it discussed the annual deliverables set for the department to be achieved during the financial year 2022-23.
