2 drug peddlers arrested at B’pora, Handwara : Police

B’pora : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Bandipora & Handwara and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
In a statement issued on Saturday police said that while acting on a specific input about the movement of drug peddlers towards Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora, a police party of Police Station Bandipora led SHO PS Bandipora established a surprise checkpoint at Madar Chowk Bandipora and during checking police party signalled two suspicious persons to stop, who tried to flee from the spot following which the male person was arrested on spot and the lady managed to flee away after throwing a polythene bag towards her male accomplice. Stating that during search, charas powder was recovered from the polythene bags, Police in it’s above referred statement said that the detained drug peddler has been identified as Shehzad Ahmad Sheikh son of Lala Sheikh resident of Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora and the lady has been identified as his wife.
“Efforts are on to nab the accused lady”, reads the above referred police statement, adding that “After the incident, a case vide FIR No. 139/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bandipora and investigation has been initiated”.
Stating that in a similar incident in Handwara a police party from PP Chogal while on patrolling near Badshah Khan crossing stopped a vehicle bearing registration number JK09C/5991 for checking and the person boarding the vehicle was identified as Javid Ahmad Mir S/O Mohd Subhan Mir R/O Sagipora, Police in it’s above referred statement further said that during search around 170 gm of charas like substance was recovered from the possession of the said drug peddler who was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. “A case FIR No. 229/2022 under relevant section of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated”, reads the police statement further, adding that “the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized”.
In the concluding para of the above referred statement, Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, stating therein further that consistent actions against drug peddlers are taken as part of the efforts made to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
