New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that 10 lakh people be given jobs in the central government in the next 18 months. The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted that the Prime Minister reviewed the human resource situation in all departments and ministries and directed that the government recruit 1 million people in mission mode in the next 1.5 years.
The government had told Parliament earlier this year that a total of 8.72 lakh posts were vacant in central government departments as on March 1, 2020. The central government has sanctioned more than 4 million, but employs less than 3.2 million. The government has been trying to fill these vacancies for years, but without much success.
According to reports, the largest number of vacancies are in major ministries and departments such as posts, defense (civil), railways and revenue. As against about 1.5 lakh sanctioned posts in railways, about 2.3 lakh posts are vacant in the Ministry of Railways. civil), there are about 2.5 lakh posts against the sanctioned strength of about 6.33 lakh employees. Department of Posts has about 90,000 posts against the total sanctioned number of 2.67 lakh employees while Ministry of Home Affairs has about 10.8 lakh sanctioned posts. 1.3 lakh posts are vacant. A senior government official explained that due to acute shortage of employees, the work of some departments is affected and new recruitments are delayed even though retirements have been done and even the approval of employees in ministries. The number of candidates has also increased over the years.
Meanwhile, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his directive to conduct 1 million recruitments in mission mode in one and a half years in all government departments and ministries.
In a tweet, Home Minister Amit Shah said that the foundation of India is its youth power, Prime Minister Modi is constantly working to empower them. Modi’s directive to make 1 million recruitments in mission mode in 1.5 years in all government departments and ministries will instill new hope and confidence in the youth. As per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s instructions for recruitment, steps have been taken to fill the vacant posts in mission mode.
