B’gam : Police on Tuesday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Budgam and also recovered contraband substance from his possession.
In a statement issued on Tuesday Police said that on receiving specific inputs about the movement of drug peddlers in Lakhripora area of Budgam district , a police party of Police Station Budgam raided the house of Reyaz Ahmad Bhat son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat resident of Lakhripora Budgam and recovered 44 kgs of Poppy Straw concealed in two suit cases following which he was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Stating that another drug peddler managed to run away and is evading arrest, Police in it’s statement further said that efforts are on to nab the absconding drug peddler and meanwhile a case vide FIR No. 278/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Budgam and investigation has been taken up.
In the concluding para of it’s above referred statement Police appealed people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood but warned that people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Police in it’s statement also said that actions against drug peddlers are taken as part of efforts made to keep society free from the scourge of drug menace.
