Rajouri : A massive tree plantation drive was undertaken in Kalakote to mark AzadikaAmritMahotsav celebration and completion of 75 years of independence. Saplings of different species were planted in large numbers by forest department staff, local villagers and school children in presence VivekVerma Conservator West circle; Anita Thakur DDC member Kalakote; Babu Khan BDC Chairman Kalakote; Vijay Suri Municipal Committee Chairman Kalakote and PRI members .
On the occasion, locals appreciated the efforts made by the forest department to plant peepal and bargad saplings at prominent places as well as distribution of plants free of cost among local villagers under HarGaonHaryali scheme for making tree plantation a mass public movement.
The Conservator West circle, while stressing the need for protection of forests and environment, explained the cultural importance of Peepal and Bargad which are known for habitat improvement as well as oxygen generation capacity.
Ornamental plants were also distributed at Government High School Potha in presence of Principal and teachers along with the plantation carried out in school premises to generate environmental awareness among the children.
The programme was organisedby Arshdeep Singh Divisional Forest Officer Rajouri, He thanked the participants for their wholehearted participation in the plantation programme.
