B’gam : Under the aegis of ‘AzadiKaAmritMahotsav’, the NSS unit of Govt. Degree College (GDC) Khansahib in collaboration with Women Development Cell on Saturday organised a one day seminar on the theme ‘BetiBachao, BetiPadhao’, here.
Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Khansahib, MehjabeenaAkhter was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
In her speech, she highlighted the effective implementation of Integrated Child Development Scheme at the grassroots level and appreciated the role of Aganwadi workers in this endeavour.
She also underlined the role of ‘LadliBeti Scheme’ in Jammu & Kashmir in arresting declining female sex ratio wherein Rs. 1000 is deposited in the bank account of a girl child on monthly basis. Maturity benefits after completing 21 years of age cater to her financial needs including marriage.
She laid bare the fact that cases of domestic violence against women are pouring-in on daily basis and property rights to women must become a reality.
Earlier Principal of the college, Dr. Syed TanvirIndrabi laid emphasis on women education and fighting the cultural prejudices that impact women empowerment. He advocated for an uncompromising attitude towards the health and education of a girl child.
In his speech, Dr. SajadPadder, NSS Programme Officer, talked about the ‘BetiBachao, BetiPadhao’ initiative; targets achieved and challenges ahead.
The college newsletter ‘Caravan’ was also released on the occasion. The programme ended with the votes of thanks presented by SumayaSadia.
