One day seminar on ‘Structure of Sports in different Domains’ held at CUK

Sports & Academics should go hand in hand in Teaching-Learning process: Registrar

G’bal: Department of Physical Education, School of Education, Central University of Kashmir (CUK) on Friday organised a one-day seminar on the structure of sports in different domains here on Thursday.
According to the statement issued by Public Relation Officer, speaking on the occasion, Registrar, Prof. M Afzal Zargar emphasised that the sports and academics should go hand in hand in the institutions of higher learning. He assured that the sports infrastructure in the university would be further developed and improved so that the students could use the facilities to channelize their energy and showcase their hidden talent.
Addressing the gathering, Finance Officer, Prof. Fayaz Ahmad Nikka said that sports not only enrich physical health, but also develop leadership qualities, cooperation, and social aspect of the personality. He further said the sport inculcates discipline among the youngsters.
In his address, Dean School of Media Studies, and Director Tulmulla Campus, Prof. Shahid Rasool, said the sportspersons, particularly the women athletes have brought laurels to the country by winning medals at Olympics, Commonwealth games and other international sports events.
Dean & Head School of Education, Prof. Syed Zahoor Ahmad Geelani elaborated on the relationship between exercise, physical activity, and the well-being of human beings.
Director Physical Education and Sports, Government Degree College Pulwama, Dr. Faisal Sulleh Hayyat, in his keynote speech, explained the structure of sports in the country and how higher education should establish state of the art sports facilities in their institutions to get recognition at the national and international levels.
During the event, participants in All India University Mini Golf, Pencak Silat & Woodball Competitions were felicitated. Yoga Instructors who have imparted yoga sessions across different campuses of CUK during a 3-week Workshop on yoga organised on the eve of the 8th International Day of Yoga were also felicitated.
According to the concluding para of the above referred statement, Asst Prof. Dr Mohammad Muzamil Shah conducted the programme proceedings while as Dean DSW, Dr. Mehraj Ud Din Shah proposed the vote of thanks.
