Srinagar : The Food Safety Wing of Drugs & Food Control Organization, Kashmir on Monday commenced its 14 day Surveillance Drive for Edible Vegetable Oil, Multisource Edible Oil and Vanaspati.
The drive is undertaken on the directions of Commissioner, Food & Drugs Administration, J&K from Ist to 14th August.
During the drive, 05 samples of Mustard Oil, 02 Samples of Vanaspati, 03 Samples of Multisource Edible Oil and 08 Refined Soyabean Oil. The surveillance drive is being undertaken to collate the data for non-compliance on part of the Manufacturers and to curb the adulteration of Edible Oil in the food market as it constitutes a significant part of the daily basket.
The Deputy Commissioner, Food Safety, Kashmir, Shagufta Jalal, said that the calendar has been devised by the department to ensure staggered sampling so that wide range of Edible Oil Samples are lifted. She said that the testing of these samples shall be done on fact track basis.
She added that the department is committed to ensure safe and wholesome food for the consumers and such commodity specific drives shall continue in future as well.
